Looks like the all new PlayStation Phone will not be released on April 1, as planned earlier.  Seems like a well planned April fool’s day prank?  It has been reported that this device, which would have had the biggest launch ever among all the other Android phones, is now getting postponed as there are too many annoying bugs in the system.  These bugs are actually disturbing the operating mechanism of the phone due to which it is not performing as intended.  One would stop and wonder how the launch date was decided without having fixed such a bug first?

Stuart Hibberd, who is the head of 02’s testing team, has talked about it on the company’s blog.  He mentioned that they have been working closely with Sony Ericsson and putting all efforts to fix such bugs but unfortunately will not be able to launch the PlayStation Phone as planned on April 1, since they have not been able to resolve this problem so far.

Further to the announcement of this delay, the new launch date has not yet been declared although we hope this news of delay is just a joke.  The PlayStation Phone, also known as Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, is in quite a state of limbo, as the team is desperately trying to rectify its issues.

In the midst of all this, Vodafone is still prepared for offering this phone on April 1, indicating that the bugs are related to the phone’s functioning in a specific network (02 in this case).

Some US Senators apparently have written to smartphone manufacturers Apple, RIM and Google to ask them to pull those applications that may help the drunk drivers to evade police checkpoints.  There are some apps which help you do not just that but even evade any other action that the police take to check the drivers’ alcohol levels.  CNET recently reported this news and RIM, makers of Blackberry, has even decided to comply.

Among the requesting parties is Charles E. Schumer, a US Senator who mentioned that RIM’s decision to pull such applications from its online stores only goes to prove that ideally, there should be no app for a crime like drunk driving.

Though in the letter to RIM, the US senators specified the app that provides a complete list of Driving-Under-the-Influence (DUI) checkpoints the police use apart from another application that uses the concept of crowd sourcing to figure out the new and undiscovered checkpoints, they did not mention exactly which application they were referring to in the letters to Apple and Google.

CNET also reported that Google spokesperson has assured them that it will do the needful in removing any applications that may be violating the content policy, though they did not believe that they had any such applications in use.

One would wonder why such applications were even developed at the first place, especially when drunk driving poses such a great risk to everyone’s life.  USA is one lucky country to be doing something about this.
