A recent article on uSwitch website as well as on Sky in the UK states that iPhone has lost its battle against Android OS and some cheaper models.
One of the issues is that it is way too expensive and majority of the people are definitely not willing to shell out so many pounds for a mobile while one can easily get a very good handset for much lesser or sometimes even free if one signs a contract. Next week, US will see the introduction of the much awaited new iPhone 5 and in the UK markets, it is expected to be retailing at £500. And considering you would want to replace your phone with a new one in within a span of 12-18 months that indeed is a great deal of money for just a mobile phone.
Another issue seems to be the Android OS. An Android’s OS is by far an excellent platform being featured in plenty of handset styles. Not just that, one gets around thousands of apps which allow users to customize their mobile phones per their like and convenience. On the other hand, when you compare this with Apple’s apps where development is much slower and more confined due to its proprietary issues, Android surely steals the deal as its platform is open too. Mr. Doku from uSwitch just cites a small example wherein if the user wants to just silence the call, he can simply turn the phone over – isn’t that handy in case you have forgotten to turn off the ringer?
UK’s top 10 handsets as per uSwitch are:
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Desire
- Blackberry Curve 8520
- HTC Wildfire
- Apple iPhone 4 (16 GB)
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Sony Ericsson S500i
- Motorola DEFY
